Meditation Workshop

Chris Condon MA, CHT,CAC

Have you been talking about starting a meditation practice?

Do you try to sit and wonder if your mind will ever quiet down?

Do you tell yourself and others you cannot meditate- or just joke about it?

Or do you currently meditate and want to share what works for you and learn new techniques?

The workshop will offer opportunities to learn an eclectic mix of Universal principles, Buddhist meditation, and Metaphysical visualization techniques that have been used in many great traditions. We will incorporate a variety of visual, auditory, and active practices that will allow you to choose what works for you. The intent is to offer a collection of experiential practices — from which you can personally customize your own meditation practice.

The benefits of daily meditation:

Less stress, Improved concentration, strengthens the immune system and improves health, creates confidence, and deepens self acceptance.

A study by blue Cross-Blue shield shows how powerful an effect mediation has on the mind and body. Two groups of people in the study sample were observed over a 5-year period. One group had a daily meditation practice the other did not. After the 5 years the group with the meditation practice had experienced 70% less cancerous episodes and 50% less hospital visits.

Another example of the power of mediation is the fact that on a weekend in Washington D.C. 100 Buddhist monks meditated on peace for the city. After the weekend was over the police reported 25% less crime while the monks had been there.

The benefits of meditation have also entered into the world of psychotherapy. Several years ago Dialectical Behavioral Therapy was created to treat Borderline Personality Disorder(DBT). This disorder is known for its intense and volatile emotional states. DBT combines meditation-mindfulness techniques with Cognitive Behavioral therapy to create a very powerful and successful process of change. So if mindfulness-meditation can help transform this degree of neurotic thoughts and emotions just think of what it can do for your feeling states.
